A Guide to the Perfect Ballet Bun

A Guide to the Perfect Ballet Bun

Posted by Jessica Starling on

The perfect bun helps to elongate the head and neck line, adding to the grace and extensions desired in ballet.

To begin with you'll need to get all your hair accessories ready. You will need: hair bobbles/ elastics, a bun net, bun pins (thick or thin depending on how thick and long your hair is), a hair brush and gel or spray. You can find these in our hair accessories online.

Now for the bun:

1) Slick your hair back into a tight ponytail (high or low) using hair spray where necessary to smooth any flyways. Fasten with your hair bobbles.

2) Prep your bun net in front of you, doubled over if necessary. Take your ponytail, twist a little and then wrap it into a circle shape, tucking the ends underneath. Place bun net on top pulling in the same direction as the hair and tucking the excess underneath.

3) Pins at the ready, here we ensure the shape of the bun. Using your free hand place pins around the bun, aiming straight into the scalp then turning into the bun to create that flat and secure shape, 8-10 pins should be plenty.

4) Finishing touches! Add any extra hairspray required and any bows, ribbons or accessories of your choosing.

Perfect bun achieved!
